Industrial Gibbet (2022)

Industrial Gibbet forms the first iteration in another “Pyre” tryptic the process of creating a sculpture to apply an unstable process to and display the results. Each section of the process forming it’s own unique piece.

Created from synthetic reclaimed and manufactured materials unlike the previous first iteration “Manufactured organic” which was formed as a clean and sterile enclosure this piece was intentionally created from the used and discarded and is forcefully unclean.

This mixed media piece if formed of Wax, concrete, reclaimed steel, plant roots and aluminium. Formed into the shape of gibbet its intention is to exercise the shape of the organic corpse.

Using soy wax I encapsulated the broken roots of plants into a geometric column and strung their remains to the industrial complex.

This piece doesn’t look to say what is right or wrong about industry but demonstrates the states of it. It draws on our history of parading our dead and those seen as “traitors to progress” whilst simply showing we lynch our own survival by the structures we form.

Coming from an industrial town myself I’ve always been in awe of the things we can create and the power of process however have seen the coupling of that with the exploitation of workers and our environments under a banner of “progress” Often times maintaining the broken and out dated until the breaking point comes simply because it is the “more economical” option and the people involved are disposable to the system.

This mixed media sculpture is available to display please contact me if interested.
